00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:06.000
Hi, I'm Rob Boyer. I'm the City Manager, and today I want to talk a little bit about leaf season.

00:00:08.000 --> 00:00:19.000
In general, we usually start leaf season Monday after Columbus Day. However, because of the warm weather this year, we've pushed that back to the first week of November.

00:00:19.000 --> 00:00:24.000
So we will be starting to do our leaf collection the first week.

00:00:24.000 --> 00:00:37.000
Also, just a few pointers on that. One of the challenges for our crew is we need them put out on the curb in a specific way, primarily in a continuous line along the curb line.

00:00:37.000 --> 00:00:46.000
It also helps if you do not pile them near power poles or signs or guy wires for the power poles.

00:00:46.000 --> 00:00:53.000
Because of the manipulation of the tubes, we can't easily manipulate them around these obstacles.

00:00:53.000 --> 00:01:02.000
We also ask that you don't include any grass clippings or flowers or hostas or sticks or trash of any kind.

00:01:02.000 --> 00:01:11.000
The trouble is these things plug up our machines and they make it difficult to efficiently remove the leaves from your property.

00:01:11.000 --> 00:01:16.000
Also, please avoid parking near piles or adjacent to leaf piles.

00:01:16.000 --> 00:01:21.560
We have we have a truck and a towable machine and they take up quite a maybe 25 30 feet

00:01:21.560 --> 00:01:27.480
And if we have a car in the way the tube the suction tube can't swing over far enough to remove those leaves

00:01:27.480 --> 00:01:29.680
So we would just ask you to to please

00:01:30.799 --> 00:01:37.620
not park adjacent to leaf piles during collection season and lastly, please keep leaf piles away from the

00:01:38.640 --> 00:01:40.039
the storm drains

00:01:40.039 --> 00:01:44.200
One of the issues with if we get a rain the leaves go down a storm drain

00:01:44.200 --> 00:01:50.439
and you can plug up our storm system as well as that's adding a lot of biomass to our receiving

00:01:50.439 --> 00:01:51.439
streams.

00:01:51.439 --> 00:01:55.859
So we want to avoid putting leaf piles near the storm drains.

00:01:55.859 --> 00:02:00.560
So this year, as I mentioned before, we're going to be starting collection here the first

00:02:00.560 --> 00:02:02.200
week of November.

00:02:02.200 --> 00:02:05.900
In general, we're able to get through the city five to seven times.

00:02:05.900 --> 00:02:12.159
We generally work from west to east across the city and you can check the status of our

00:02:12.159 --> 00:02:15.120
Progress on the leaf map available at the city website.

00:02:15.879 --> 00:02:21.280
And as you will notice, there's certain areas highlighted with different colors.

00:02:21.280 --> 00:02:25.319
There's a key there and it's it kind of indicates where where we've been,

00:02:25.319 --> 00:02:26.479
where we're going.

00:02:26.479 --> 00:02:31.519
But bear in mind, just because it says complete, that's just complete for that run.

00:02:31.840 --> 00:02:34.280
So that doesn't necessarily mean it's complete for the season.

00:02:34.280 --> 00:02:36.759
We'll continue to pick up leaves.

00:02:36.759 --> 00:02:40.000
We'll keep going through town until the first

00:02:40.000 --> 00:02:43.740
and

00:02:43.740 --> 00:02:54.860
so on.
